Selected Works

Odipus der tyrann (2021 – 2026)

A three-movement work based on Hölderlin’s Ödipus der Tyrann, in 13-limit just intonation. Here is the first movement, for seven musicians and based on a seven-note scale. The forces expand to twelve musicians/notes in the second movement, and nineteen musicians/notes in the final movement. The complete work will be performed at the DiMenna Center in New York City in BeComEnsemble’s 2025-2026 season.

Songs from the seventh floor (2022)

A dream of Monteverdi’s musical and poetic world, an unrecoverable paradise. In just intonation. Performed multiple times by JACK Quartet.

Arupadhatu in G (2023)

The realm of devas (gods/celestial beings) is the highest realm of rebirth in Buddhist cosmology. Having accumulated good karma, devas live long, pleasant lives. However, they are not liberated from samsara and are eventually reborn into the lower realms characterized by dukkha (suffering/unsatisfactoriness). Arupadhatu is the “formless realm” inhabited by devas who have attained the Four Formless Absorptions. This realm and its inhabitants have no physical shape or location.

Fallen Leaves (2024)

A string quartet in five sections – Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. Loosely inspired by a shot in Kaurismäki’s 2023 film Fallen Leaves.
